Dot Net Nuke Hosting/Installation
Dot Net Nuke is the first open source project
for the Windows platform. Dot Net Nuke (DNN) is a portal manager
that lets you not only manage content but has all the typical elements
of a portal:
- User Management
- Mail Lists
- Surveys
- Message Boards
- Photo Gallery
- Events Calendar
- Banner Ad system
Third party modules (often for a fee) let you
extend to even more capabilities. The best way to get a feel of
the software is to see it in action. Check out the site
showcase on the DotNetNuke
website (which itself also runs DotNetNuke).
Though it is free software, installing it on
your website will require a bit of technical acumen.
Here are our own install tips (3.2 version): .
If the install fails it is best to start over
from scratch; drop the database and delete all files. Then recreate
the db and unzip files again.
Be sure to set the member roles true in Web.config:
<add key="InstallMemberRole" value="true" />
This means you will have to give the DotNetNuke user in SQLServer complete
permissions to mess with database security
(not just database owner of the DotNetNuke database).
If you don't give role permissions,
you get this error when trying to make a portal:
Error: Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.aspnet_CheckSchemaVersion'.
If after you create the portal, when
you try to access it, it complains:
Could not find file "C:\DotNetNuke\SiteUrls.config".
just copy it from:
DotNetNuke\Config\SiteUrls.config to DotNetNuke\SiteUrls.config
I want DotNetNuke web hosting!
Three options to get going with DotNetNuke:
- Buy our SQL
Server hosting and we'll install DNN for free! You get
host login permissions to make an unlimited number
of portals.
- Buy our DotNetNuke
hosting and you get an
admin account to construct one portal.
- If you
already have hosting we'll install DNN on your site for
$80.
