Pop-up Text Bubbles

Widget Function: Make popup text bubbles from a list of key words.

Move the mouse over a word and a description pops up. Commonly used to give additional help for toolbars but it is also great for doing glossaries, definitions, acronyms, or footnotes.
Here's how it works:
Enter a list of key-words or phrases and the corresponding pop-up text to go with them. The key-words must be surrounded by the vertical bar (|) symbol. You also provide the address of the web page you want to change. This widget will search for all the words or phrases and bind a dynamic HTML text bubble to each one. When your page is generated, test it out to make sure it works as expected, then choose "Save As" on the browser and upload it to your website.

Browser Requirements: Netscape 4.0+, Internet Explorer 4.0+.
Notes & Tips:

  • It may be easier to first work in a text editor (like Notepad) and then copy the data to the form.
  • You can add HTML tags in the pop-up text.
  • The box size only has an effect in Internet Explorer.
  • Pop-up text cannot be added to hypertext links. The mechanism to trigger the pop-up text uses the hypertext tag.
  • Try out the example, just hit the submit button.

HONG KONG

Big Buddha

I catch the Ferry to Lantau Island. First stop is the beach. The water is so warm it doesn't cool you off to swim in it. There is a net enclosing the swimming area to keep out sharks but I still found it very creepy to swim. Moving on, I go to the giant Buddha Tiantan at the Po Lin monastery. It is "the world's largest outdoor bronze Buddha statue." [Robert Storey et al., 1998]. Instead of the ferry I take the MTR back.
