HONG KONG

Orientation

Hong Kong is a very busy, modern, international city. Lots of mirrored glass buildings. Has kind of a San Francisco feel with the steep hills and being on the ocean. There are lots of places to shop and tons of cafes and restaurants.

Every place has its tourist thing, something the locals would never ever do. Hong Kong's is the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak - great view.

Big Buddha

I catch the Ferry to Lantau Island. First stop is the beach. The water is so warm it doesn't cool you off to swim in it. There is a net enclosing the swimming area to keep out sharks but I still found it very creepy to swim. Moving on, I go to the giant Buddha Tiantan at the Po Lin monastery. It is "the world's largest outdoor bronze Buddha statue." [Robert Storey et. al., 1998]. Instead of the ferry I take the MTR back.
